Looks like the Battle of the Bay isn't going to be much of a battle anymore. Tim Kawakami of the SJ Mercury News says that a high ranking source in the NFL says it's just not going to happen again... and the SF Police are said to strongly support the decision.
It looks like the recent fight at Candlestick is what did the trick. Bob Lange, head of PR for the Niners said he hasn't been told that from the NFL.
Greg Aiello, NFL PR exec said the decision to cancel the game would be for the teams to make and not the NFL... hmmmm.
According to the same NFL inside source there probably won't even be an announcement... it might just disappear from the schedule. Fans probably won't notice, right?
It's possible the game could be replaced by a closed scrimmage game during training camp, but that's little consolation to hard-core fans.
